About me
Intro to Me Presentation
My Education Philosophy
If you can do middle school math for an hour+ everyday, you can do anything! Too many students (and adults) lack confidence in math. Of course we all have natural strengths and abilities, but strengths and abilities can be developed, including those relating to math. Middle school is a time where students gain mathematical knowledge that lays a foundation for higher level math courses in high school, careers, and college.
I love Nelson Mandela's quote about education being the most powerful weapon in the world. My desire for students is to know that they have the power to determine their future! I believe that when presented with the right opportunities and equipped with the right tools, everyone can succeed at anything they want to. As a teacher, I hope to provide these opportunities and tools for students.
Me as a Person
I have lived in Southern California my whole life; I'm a fourth generation Californian! My family consists of two children, a husband, and a dog. In our free time, we like to be outdoors riding bikes, hiking, camping, or exploring. We're lucky to have extended family close by and we get to see them often. I also LOVE giraffes! Our favorite North County attractions are Cardiff Reef and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Without the kids, I like to spin at CycleBar, rock climb, read, play the flute, and love to watch mystery and survival shows on TV. |

Me as a Teacher
I have officially been teaching for 20 years now. What a milestone! In those twenty years, I've taught in elementary and middle school, worked as a teacher and worked a short time for the district office training other teachers. At SPU, I've also done work around assessment and acted as a math coach. My strengths are understanding how students think about math, identifying misconceptions they may have, and having a structured but encouraging classroom environment.
I'm very much a "work first, then play" type of person and you'll see this in my classroom as well. I understand students are still students and need reminders on expectations. However, I also expect students to listen to directions without reminder after reminder after reminder. I am strict on cell phones and will take them away if they are a continual problem for students. Although we work first, then play, our work includes lots of play and fun activities.
I set my expectations in the classroom high! I expect students to bring their best everyday and respect the learning environment. This means that students make an effort everyday in every lesson. I value asking questions, thinking critically, being able to think about and analyze your own work, and explaining why we do the things we do.
This year, I will be teaching 6th-8th grade Math and 7th grade Forensics Exploratory.
